Gemstones - What does each crystal symbolise?

Each stone is believed to have a meaning and is said to bring different types of healing, connections or strength. Below we discuss the different gemstones and their meanings.

AMETHYST

Amethysts forms in long, prismatic crystals in geodes or hollow rocks. These geodes form when there are cavities in volcanic rock. As the rock cools, the mineral-saturated water, gases and volcanic material distil and crystallise. When these crystals harden, they form amethyst.

Amethyst is one of the most popular crystals because of its beauty and unique colouration as well as its spiritual and ancient meaning. The purple colouring can range from a light shade of lilac to a deep plum colour.

The ancient meaning of Amethyst means 'not intoxicated' and comes from the ancient Greek word – Amethystos. The spiritual meaning of Amethyst is groundedness, tranquility, serenity, trust and grace and for hundreds of years has been known to have healing properties.

CITRINE

Its pale yellow colour is what gives it its name, Citrine, coming from the French citron, meaning lemon.

The spiritual meaning of Citrine is its yellow hues symbolising the spiritual qualities of joy, abundance, and prosperity.

In a physical sense, citrine’s healing properties include improving digestion and strengthening endurance. In ancient times, healers used these stones to purify the body of toxins, improve the circulation of blood and strengthen the immune system.

It is believed to balance and enhance positive energy. Also known as the Success Stone, it can be a helpful totem to increase wealth.

Allot of the Citrine that is available today, including our items and other Citrine from around the world were originally Amethyst that have been heated in kilns, which creates and speeds up the naturally occurring process that geo-thermal heat hasn't yet had a chance to do. This gives these gemstones their beautiful range of amber colours. The heating process does not alter the molecular structure of the stone.

AGATE:  Protection - Strength – Courage

Agate is formed in the cavities of ancient volcanic rocks. After the rock cools, microcrystal fibers collect as water pools or passes through. The layers build up over time, with different colours reflecting differences in the water’s composition. The result is a colourful reminder of the power of strength built with time.

Agate occurs in many varieties, each with its unique meaning, and the mystical appeal of Agate stones is mainly because they are very stable crystals. They are all grounding stones and have a powerful connection to the energies of Mother Earth.
